It seems like the topic of making money online has been droned about ad nauseam and it’s really a topic that a lot of people really want to learn about but are coerced by various blogs and other publications that it’s done in a certain fashion, like starting a blog, or something along those lines. They make it out that there’s a step-by-step procedure or number of steps you need to follow, and miraculously a pile of money will appear at your doorstep. That’s bullshit, and I’ll explain why.

There is no set way to make money online, period. The Internet is another platform, which people can tap into to do business. You don’t have to start a blog, you don’t have to buy some $49 e-book, you don’t have to do PPC or affiliate marketing. You just need to provide value. So, how can you go about doing that? Well, there are a ton of ways you can provide value to people, and usually it works best in the form of information.

The Internet is all about making vast oceans of information available to everyone, and as we all know, the right information is an extremely valuable (and intangible) asset. A common business practice online is to leverage information provided (such as on a blog) and really help people with some problem or another through the information provided. Once you’ve established that your information is valuable (through the number of visitors/subscribers you have) you can then go on to leverage this traffic and interest and convert it into revenue through up-selling products/services (or ads that display other people’s products or services) that could help your visitors further. This is the basic principle of using content on the Internet to make money, which is used throughout the brick and mortar publishing empires.

Providing content isn’t the only way of making money, we don’t all need to be in the publishing business on the Internet as it’d probably get too crowded. You can also offer products/services directly to those who could be interested and potentially need the product or service you have to offer.

The point is, core business practices are consistent throughout all platforms, and the Internet is no exception. You can’t just turn a tap on, and money starts pouring out of it (a mindset a lot of people have when it comes to making money online), you have to put in vast sums of time and effort, like in any venture, for it to succeed. Don’t get me wrong, you can make big money in a short period of time on the Internet (just like in standard brick-mortar businesses) but that’s more of a lottery, one-in-a-million type scenario. Remember that generally the effort you put into a business of any kind (if applied correctly) is directly proportionate to the success of it – seems like a very simple idea, but many people easily look over this important fact.

    You absolutly right Taiyab;

    There are thousands of ways to make money online, and the best ways i think are the ones that are best for the indivisual.

    What do i mean, some people are better at some techniques than others.

    Play to your strengths not the status quo!!
